“For Democrats, Financial Edge in Campaigns” by Michael Luo & Griff Palmer (TIMES, 10/27/10)

The headline over this column seems to indicate the opposite of its content. Republicans have the “financial edge” because they have access to “large, unrestricted donations that are not publicly disclosed.”

Large donations from wealthy conservatives enable the Republican candidates to “leapfrog ahead” of those “who must inch along in their own fund-raising in relatively modest bites.”

This situation was made possible by a corporate-friendly Supreme Court that has made it easier for wealthy outsiders to buy local elections.

The column should have been titled: “How Wealthy Outsiders Buy Elections.” Remember your promise to publish “All the News That’s Fit to Print”!
