“Mugged by the Moralizers” by Paul Krugman (TIMES, 11/1/10)


          Confucius warned that the improper use of words cold mislead people.

          If leaders “pushed the world into the deepest recession since the 1930’s” and that was the decade of the Great Depression, shouldn’t Krugman be indentifying the present economic downturn as a depression.

          If a doctor diagnoses a compound fracture as a mere sprain, would the patient be confident that he could cure the ailment?

          Why the hesitation to acknowledge that the USA is suffering a depression? Maybe it isn’t great yet but it is a depression, and its termination
