“In His Military Farewell, Petraeus Issues a Warning on Looming Budget Cuts” by Elisabeth Bumiller (TIMES, 9/1/11)

Compared to famous U.S. generals like Ulysses S. Grant, John J. Pershing, George C. Marshall, and Dwight D. Eisenhower, two of whom served as presidents, David H. Petraeus has retired from the Army “into the C.I.A. director’s post.”

As the new head of the Central Intelligence Agency, a position which was astepping stone to the presidency for George H.W. Bush,  Petraeus will still be very much active on the political scene.

Will this “honorable soldier” be the Republican candidate for  president in 2012?  It is difficult to believe that the leaders of the GOP will back any of their current candidates  for the highest office in the land.  Their job will be to continue undermining Obama’s image as a worthy president, after which the GOP will usher Petraeus to center stage.

Will he be “Peaches” to the voters too?
