“A Campaign Finance Ruling Turned to Labor’s Advantage” (TIMES, 9/26/11)

Good news to hear that the Citizens United ruling by the Supreme Court last year will make it possible for labor unions to organize the unorganized.

It means labor will invest money (initially $10 million) to build an urgently needed “year-round political structure.”  That will mean the labor movement will be functioning 365 days a year, instead of only during electoral campaigns.

It should also mean that the unions won’t be chained to a Democratic Party leadership ,who expects them to support anti-labor  Blue Dog candidates.  Once again, American working people can have an effective voice in the political arena.

The first priority for a newly-energized labor movement should be supporting the implementation of a massive federal jobs program NOW.
