“Bernanke Urges Obama and Congress to Do More for Economy” (TIMES, 10/5/11)

The Federal Reserve chairman says “the recovery is close to faltering,” after months of hearing it described as an “anemic recovery.”  We have been experiencing an anemic recovery that is now faltering, so, according to Chairman Bernanke, “we need to make sure that the recovery continues and doesn’t drop back.”  The task for the President and Congress is to stop the faltering anemic recovery from dropping back!

The late comedians, Bud Abbott and Lou Costello, could have had a field day with such language, working up a routine funnier than “Who’s On First?”  Can you imagine a frustrated Costello trying to make sense out of such nonsense?  The audience would be rolling in the aisles.

Question: Are we actually experiencing a depression?  If so, shouldn’t Congress get to work quickly to stimulate the economy?
