“U.S. Selling Arms To Iraq As Worry On Maliki Grows” (TIMES, 12/29/11)

Will Maliki use these weapons “to protect the borders” of Iraq or will he  do so for narrow sectarian purposes?

If the United States refuses to make the sale, it would “jeopardize $10 billion worth of jobs” and Maliki “would simply get his weapons elsewhere.”

Though the Obama administration finally signed off on  the “unnecessary war” in Iraq, it is still ensnared in a country that could split into three parts.  Nevertheless, the U.S. should not continue arming a potential Shia dictatorship there simply to save American jobs.
