“France, Breaking With NATO, Will Speed Its Afghan Pullout” (TIMES, 1/28/12)

Good news to hear that the French will be withdrawing their combat forces from Afghanistan a year earlier than announced.  They should be out of there by the end of 2013.

Hopefully, our other major NATO allies, Great Britain, Germany and Italy will quickly follow suit.  In fact, with careful planning, all these troops could be out of Afghanistan by the end of THIS year.

Then, with our allies withdrawing as rapidly as is feasible, the American public will support an earlier withdrawal of our own combat units (which have already suffered 1870 dead).  It no longer makes sense dragging out the evacuation until 12/31/14.
