“A Veteran’s Death, the Nation’s Shame” by Nicholas D. Kristof (TIMES, 4/15/12)

Kudos to Nicholas Kristof for his account of veteran suicides.  More than 6500 are logged every year.  That is more than have died in Iraq and Afghanistan combined.  “For every soldier killed on the battlefield this year, about 25 veterans are dying by their own hands.”

Despite these grim figures, veteran hospitals are slow to get help for these severely stressed individuals, some of whom have had to wait six weeks before getting the attention of a doctor.

This is a disgrace but we should not expect help from the scoundrels (Republicans) and cowards (Democrats) who so quickly supported both of these wars to uphold the New World Order.

Senior officers upon retirement get lucrative pensions and positions on the boards of directors of major corporations.  When the armed forces are finished with the grunts, the people who are put in harm’s way, they have little time to deal with their injuries.
