“The Collective Turn” by David Brooks (TIMES, 1/22/13)

January 22, 2013

Ah, the purple prose of David Brooks that describes Obama as a “nonpopulist progressive”!

Brooks thinks the American people should be able to compete “raucously” in the marketplace! Does he mean like the Wall Street wolves who caused the economic crisis after Glass/Steagall was repealed?

When is this brain scientist going to address the role of the military industrial- complex in the workings of the U.S. economy? Isn’t that a lot of government spending to stimulate the “free enterprise system”?

RE: “The Next Four Years” by David Brooks (TIMES, 1/18/13)

January 22, 2013

The last four words  of this editorial, “I have no idea,” say it all, which is frequently the case with this disingenuous conservative columnist.  Brooks often has no idea of what is happening because he bends over backwards to make the Republicans seem credible.

In fact, they are not making a good faith effort to conduct the business of government, even voting against measures that originated with them.  The GOP is obstructionist, only interested in discrediting the President; therefore, appealing to them is a waste of time.  They should be confronted and exposed for the lackies of big business that they are.

RE: “The Afghan War’s Last Chapter” (TIMES, 1/12/13)

January 15, 2013

Why does President Obama continue to drag his feet on the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan?

Very little is being accomplished by their presence there.  If he starts the evacuation right now, all 66,ooo troops could be out by 6/30/13, 18 months sooner than the 12/31/14 deadline.  Considerable American lives would be saved and a lot of money too.

Bring our troops home!

“The God Glut” by Frank Bruni (TIMES, 12,11,12)

January 15, 2013

Kudos to Frank Bruni for his courageous exposure of the Christian zealots who are attempting to force people to accept their beliefs. It is psychological harassment and is especially troubling in the military. Many a Fascist has hidden his beliefs under a Christian mantle.

“The Cracks in the Nation’s Foundation” (TIMES, 12/9/12)

January 15, 2013

The USA has “faltering sewage plants,” that constitute a serious health risk, as well as “70,000 structurally deficient bridges” and “4000 dams in need of repair.” And NYC’s subway system needs $4.8 billion just to recover from Hurricane Sandy.”

So much needs to be done but there does not seem to be the will to do it!

NOW, after Obama’s clear victory on November 6, 2012, is the best time for him to implement a massive federal jobs program. It would go a long way to repairing the nation’s infrastructure and it would lower the unemployment rate as well.

“Time Slipping, U.S. Ponders Afghan Role After 2014” by Michael R. Gordon (TIMES, 11/25/12)

January 15, 2013

If what this writer says is true, the United States will not be evacuating Afghanistan by 12/31/14, as we Americans are being led to believe.

But, never mind; we an evacuate all U.S. forces from this quagmire inherited from the shadow presidency of 2001-2009 by 6/30/13.

Uncle Sam has to get the Afghanistan monkey off his back. It can be done safely by June 2013. Enough is enough; bring our troops home!

“Fraud Trial Begins in Multimillion Dollar Afghan Bank Scandal” (Times, 11/17/12)

January 15, 2013

How many stories of fraud in Afghanistan do Americans have to read in order to get the message? The U.S. cannot fix the mess there, not now and not by 2014.

Uncle Sam is standing in a quagmire created by the shadow presidency of 2001-2009 and the more he prances about in the muck, the deeper he sinks into it.

Obama should withdraw all American armed forces from Afghanistan by 6/30/13, 18 months sooner than the 12/31/14 final deadline. Many lives will be saved and a great deal of money too.

A Sensible Foreign Policy

January 15, 2013

Doing business with or keeping track of the Department of Defense is rarely good news, but the word is out that Leon Panetta is stepping down. He will be replaced by Senator John Kerry (D/MA), which is probably an omen of significant change.

What has to be done in quick order is: move back the evacuation of Afghanistan from 12/31/14 to 6/30/13 and immediately  pull out that newly posted Marine detachment from Darwin, Australia.

Afghanistan is a hopeless cause so having our troops out of there 18 months sooner will save American lives and a lot of money as well. Rumsfeld’s quagmire is costing one (or is it two?) billion dollars a month.

What earthly good will come from posting U.S. marines to Australia? Now, before there are any casualties, is the best time to do it.

Forget the New World Order and to hell with the interests of Big Oil! Aim instead for a rational foreign policy.

“Obama the Dealmaker” by David Brooks (Times, 11/13/12)

January 15, 2013

It is despicable how David Brooks the so-called “moderate” conservative, can distort the truth. After the shameless obstructionism of the House Republicans (motivated by the desire to make Obama a one-term president), how can this faux moderate claim that the Democrats would be “irresponsible” in confronting them?

It is not necessary to conquer the Republicans (as Brooks claims the Democrats want to do) but it is necessary to expose the GOP for what it is: the party of one percent.  A majority of the voters saw the Republicans that way and that is why further confrontation might ultimately win out. If there are decent Republicans, as Brooks suggests, the best way to find them is by confrontation; then many of their more reasonable supporters will demand change.

The conservative leaders of the Democratic Party have kissed too many Blue Dog asses. Horsetrading with a party that only brings swaybacked nags to the corral is a waste of time.

Is Brooks really blind to that fact?
