“The Progressive Shift” by David Brooks (TIMES, 3/19/13)

March 25, 2013

“Moderate Conservative” David Brooks is at it again, claiming that “the entire Democratic governing” (body?) thinks a welfare state can be paid for “”by taxing the top 2 percent” of the population.
That is a falsification of the progressive position. We think the top 2 percent should be paying more taxes. We don’t think everybody else should be exempted from doing so, as Brooks is implying.
We also think the government is a major source of employment and there is plenty of work that needs doing. However, conservatives like Brooks continue to claim that private enterprises can spur the economy, despite all the evidence to the contrary. Many entrepreneurs have the cash for investment but are sitting on it.
Right now, the United States requires a massive federal jobs program. It would lower unemployment, be a source of taxes and the customers our economy so desperately needs.

“Repent, Dick Cheney” by Maureen Dowd (TIMES, 3/6/13)

March 12, 2013

Kudos to Maureen Dowd for her exposé of Dick Cheney, the shadow president of the USA from 2001 to 2009.

This unrepentant rightwing hawk should be kept in view for all Americans to see. That a corporate thug like Cheney could have acquired such a commanding grip on the executive branch of the government is truly shocking. If the GOP leaders wanted Cheney to be their actual president, he should have been placed at the top of the Republican ticket.

We cannot let this happen again!

“U.S Disavows 2 Drone Strikes Over Pakistan” (TIMES, 3/5/13)

March 5, 2013

Declan Walsh has given us the understatement of the year: “If one thing is clear about the drones, it is that all side-Pakistanis, Americans and the Taliban–have an interest in manipulating reports about their impact.”

They have been lying through their teeth for years! Can any information regarding Pakistan be believed?

“The Brutality Cascade” by David Brooks (TIMES, 3/5/13)

March 5, 2013

What “common-sense caucus” does the GOP have? It is the party of pirates that serves the interests of an American plutocracy and obstructs the workings of democracy at every turn.

After a century of exploitation by a consortium of nations, the Chinese learned to hit back. No wonder the former bullies are crying foul.

Once upon a time, the Western Powers, led by Great Britain, tipped the balance of trade with China by the massive importation of opium in to the country. That ruthless strategy undermined the Chinese economy and deeply scarred its society.

Doesn’t Brooks know that story?
