“The Long Goodbye in Afghanistan” (TImes, 11/24/13)

February 5, 2014

Well, Eisenhower warned the American people in January 1961 about the danger of maintaining a “military-industrial complex!

Therefore, at this late date, it is necessary to shout: WITHDRAW ALL OUR TROOPS FROM AFGHANISTAN BY MARCH 31, 2014!

Since a complete withdrawal is not actually going to be concluded by December 31, 2014 (8000 to 10,000 U.S. troops will remain there indefinitely), the American people can change the timetable.

Four months is enough time to withdraw our troops from that quagmire. As commander-in-chief of the armed forces, Obama has the authority to give the order.

Assert yourself, Mr. President; assert yourself!

The purple strategy

February 5, 2014

     American workers are being disfranchised!

In fifteen states of the union, it has been made more difficult to vote. Those “red states” have to be countered by “blue states” willing to support a more liberal agenda.

Since many states identified as blue are actually purple, the Democratic Party should focus its attention there. Only after purple states have been made blue, can any attention be given to the red states.

When more purple states (e.g., Ohio and Pennsylvania) become blue, we can hope to put an end to the gerrymandering that is undermining our democracy. Moreover, it is easier to make a purple state blue than it is to turn a red one purple, especially given the fact that the Deep South and the Bible Belt remain so conservative.

“An Exit Strategy From Afghanistan” (TImes, 10/21/13)

February 5, 2014

All 51,000 American troops should be withdrawn from the Afghanistan quagmire by 12/31/13. There is no reason to keep them there until the end of 2014.

American lives will be saved by such a move and billions of dollars as well.

Our commander-in-chief should take care of this urgent matter now!
